JOHN WILSON
Of Carter County
John Wilson applied for revolutionary pension while he was living in Carter
County, Tennessee, in 1832. He was born in Amelia County, Virginia, in 1755 or
1756. He moved with his family to the section of North Carolina which later
became Washington and Carter Counties, Tennessee. He resided in Washington
County, then North Carolina, when he enlisted in a North Carolina Company in
November, 1779. His brothers, Joseph and William Wilson, volunteered when he
did. John Wilson lived in that part of Washington County which was subsequently
erected as Carter County and was located there the rest of his life. He married
Elizabeth, widow of John Lindsay, September 2, 1837 or 1838. The widow in
applying for a pension said that she married him the day he died.
