FRANCIS WINSTEAD
Francis Winstead applied for revolutionary pension while living in Hawkins
County, Tennessee, in 1832. He was born November 19, 1758, in Northumberland
County, Virginia. While residing in that County he volunteered in the fall of
1776 and served at various times under Captains John Crawley and George Eskridge
and Colonel Thomas Jones. A great part of the time he was stationed at Cherry
Point on the Potomac River to prevent the enemy from landing. He served until
some time in 1782. He moved with his family from Northumberland County,
Virginia, to Edgecomb County, North Carolina, in 1793. After living there about
twelve years he moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee. He was a Baptist minister.
