In a message dated 3/31/2003 9:59:58 AM Eastern Standard Time,
I was wondering if anyone could offer me advice on
how to find an actual address for my great-grandfather Edwin
I found your family in Husförhörslängden AI:14 for Moheda parish (includes
1882 -1890), on page 122. They are the last family listed on that page.
They lived in a section of Moheda called "Wegby Östanåkra". Here is the
list of family members that was given:
Husband: Anders Sefström, born January 10, 1855 in Rydaholm
Wife: Johanna Johannesdotter, born September 11, 1855 in Oija
They were married on November 26, 1881
At the time of their marriage, he was still a member of the Rydaholm parish
and she was a member of Lekaryd parish. (These parishes are not far from
Moheda.) They both transferred their memberships to Moheda parish on
December 10, 1881, just a few days after their marriage.
Anders was listed as a Journeyman, but no specific trade is given. If you
look into the history of Moheda, maybe you can figure out which one. (I
wonder if it could have been glassblowing.) (Also, I read on one of the
websites, that they make a special kind of shoe there now, which is very
popular. Maybe they have been doing it there for a long time.)
Their children were born as follows:
Carl Georgius, born April 23, 1882; died April 30, 1882
Anna Emilia, born June 23, 1883; died June 30, 1883
Carl Edvard, born November 25, 1884
Berta Wilhelmina Victoria, born March 22, 1887
Edwin Gustaf Wilhelm, born April 12, 1889
Anna Maria, born November 25, 1890
There may have been additional births after 1890, but they would be found in
the next volume of the Moheda Church Records, AI:15, covering years 1891
through 1895, and 1897
I also looked at Edwin Gustaf Wilhelm's Birth and Baptism listing, and found
he was born on April 12, 1889, and baptized on April 21, 1889. Witnesses at
the Baptism were the church custodian Carl Peterson and the wife (or married
woman), Lisa Maria Jönasdotter of Bostorp. (I couldn't tell if Lisa Maria was
Carl's wife or not.) The Pastor who performed the Baptism was Rev. Palmer.
This information was from the Moheda Church Record Book BI:4. The entries
are in sequential order by date, covering the years from 1889 through 1895.
Here's hoping that this information will be helpful to you on your visit to
Sweden. I want to add that the records for Moheda Parish that I looked at
are well recorded and very easy to read. In fact, they are among the best
records that I have seen since I started doing research in Sweden!
