I would like some clarification about the Carl Andersson and
Anna Isacsdotter family in three HFL: AI:8, 1841-1845; AI:9,
1846-1850; and AI:10,1851-1855.
In AI:8 page 271 In 1845 the family moves to Västra Bäck
Qvarnen (bottom of page) parents and four children with
fifth child, son Peter listed above them.
Can I assume that they all moved there because Peter
had the job, qvarnen Dr.? And what exactly is his job?
Is he a farm hand or a miller?
--- I think your assumption is right. The family came 1845 from
page 57 (GID 236.11.11400) at the torp Uradal, and there you can
see that Carl Andersson had been "torpare" but changed to lodger
("inhyses") and the son Peter had taken over as torpare. Carl
has a note that he is almost blind.
So I think something similar is true at page 271 (GID
236.11.33100), the son Peter Carlsson is a worker and the father
has more or less retired.
The question is wether Qvarnen is a mill, or just the name of a
farm or "torp". So it is difficult to say if Peter Carlsson is
a farmhand or a miller's assistant.
Also note at the top - Does it say that half of the land is
owned by Dr. Peter Carlson?
It does seem to say that Qvarnen (the mill) and half the land is
owned by Dr Peter Carlson at ???.
AI:9 page 208 GID 236.12.70300 Note the comment about half
ownership above Peter's name and also to the far right.
In 1849 Peter moves to Aneboda.
Carl's daughter Ingrid is listed with her last name (unlike
the other children) and as Piga and also as Torp. Did she
have the right to farm the land after Peter moved? I have not
noticed the word torp. by any other unmarried female.
--- It looks like her mother had the note "Torp" before her
name, but crossed out, so perhaps first the mother and then the
oldest daughter took over as "torpare".
AI:10 page 216 Pig. Ingrid Carlsdotter is at Vestra Bäcks
Torp. Again the comment about owning half.
--- At the top of the page is another family at half of Westra
Bäcks Torp, then Ingrid Carlsdotter is under the 2nd half of
Westra Bäcks Torp, with a note that she owns half of the land.
And what is the comment about Magnus Månsson.
--- The 2nd half "brukas" (is farmed) by him. One may wonder if
this is only after Ingrid has left?
In 1853 where does she move?
--- Very difficult to read, and there doesn't seem to be any
moving-out records to check it.
The parents and other two children are at the bottom of the
page. In 1852 Anna dies, but between 1853 and 1857 Carl (who
had been labelled blind or nearly blind for about 20 years)
and all his children emigrate to the US.
--- Yes, Anders Johan seems to leave 1852-10-28, Maria
1853-04-15, and the father and Katarina in 1857. Do you know if
Peter and Ingrid also emigrated?
