Back in 2001 members of this list graciously helped me with some information
about my great grandfather Gustaf Adolph Roman.
Unfortunately life intervened and I was unable to continue the research on my
fathers ancestors at that time.
At the time list member Doris gaciously sent me information about an Ingrid
Roman and Margareta Roman with an address. Unfortunately I misplaced the print
out of the email so no longer had the address.
Doris mentioned that Ingrid Roman was listed as a "Polkagristillverkare"!
(described as red and white peppermint candies) on a 2000 Swedish telephone
directory on CD that she had.
Encouraged me to write to Ingrid and let the list know what happens.
I would really like to do both write to Ingrid and tell the list about any
correspondence that ensues.
In the meantime I am still looking for information on my great grandfathers
family before he came to the United States:
Gustaf Adolf Roman b. 06-22-1860 Grenna Smaland Sweden on Lake Vattern. d.
04-24-1938 Midland Park NJ. Came to the USA Brooklyn NY fall 1888 Naturalized
04-28-1899 Paterson NJ applied 09-27-1894 Son of S. P. Roman and Anna Warsaw.
Buried Wyckoff Reformed Church Stone has only last name. 55 years in US, last 41
in Midland Park NJ.
Gustaf came to the US as a blacksmith and wheelwright in bad health, worked
as caretaker and farmer for Rev. Atwater of Carroll St., Brooklyn who owned
property on Wyckoff Avenue in E Wyckoff NJ.
He built a cottage off Wyckoff Ave near Grandview in E Wyckoff then Franklin
Township. 1902-03 bought farm, Sicomac and Newton Road for $1300, 30 acres.
Sheriff took the money as Judgement against the previous owner.
1917 sold farm for $7000. Next year farm sold again for $21,000 for
development. Cedar lot bought for $5000, 10 acres was sold and stone wall he built is
Ran a bus service, we have an old picture of him standing next to the bus. He
was an active fireman in Midland Park for 25 years; a member of the Exempt
Firemen's Association and a Trustee of the active fire company. He was a Tiler
in Fidelity Lodge No. 113, Free and Accepted Masons of Ridgewood.Gustaf was a
Died of Hodgkins disease.
The Romans attended Paterson Congregational Church on Graham Ave. Rev
Freidland minister of Congregation Church on 55th St Brooklyn, between 4th & 5th Ave

Peter Jensen and Lotta Peterson.
