Emma is my great-grandmother's sister and her story is a sad one. She
married August Edlund, who left her in Sweden and went to America in
1889. She was expecting their third child when he left. The two
youngest children died as young children. The surviving son, Arvid,
wrote to my grandfather, his cousin Henry. I have a copy of a letter
he wrote in Dec. 1897, saying they hadn't heard from his father and
didn't know where he was. I didn't realize that his father had gone
to America when Arvid was only 3 years old. Household records show
Emma as married to smith August Edlund, who went to North America in
1889, and finally say she became a widow in 1913.
