I'm going through my records editing information and I have happened upon two ways of
listing a location: Västergötland ... or ... Västra Götland.
For the sake of my genealogy program, which listing would be "more correct" -
Västergötland or Västra Götland...? This is how the "more correct" location
would appear in my genealogy program, smallest location to largest, but I don't know
which one is "more correct" than the other:
Smälteryd, Sätila, Marks Härad, Älvsborg Län, Västergötland, Sweden
Smälteryd, Sätila, Marks Härad, Älvsborg Län, Västra Götland, Sweden
I'll be back in a couple of days asking about one or two more people who probably
came from the same area after I get the death certificate information (he died in 1905,
his widow was head of household after that in census data), but only yesterday I found my
uncle listed as a nephew in her household in 1920 (and I don't have her birth name
yet, just her married name), so I have someone tracking down the death certificates
because the year of immigration may be in question as well as the year of birth (census
data from 1895 through 1920 conflicts, so I need more accurate data before I send someone
off on a wild goose chase - all the children were born in Minnesota, but I don't know
if the couple was married in Sweden or in the US).
If someone could let me know the "more correct" way of listing the locations I
would be grateful.
Thank you very much! :-)
