Swedish records and Genealogy still new to me from a year ago, though I
have researched, read and translated in other European countries.
Searching for a friend in rural Minnesota who is interested in her
husband's grandfather's line coming from Linköping, Sweden.
Alfred Swanson - born in Linköping, Östergötland, Sweden on April 28th
1849 according to his Naturalization papers.
--- I don't see him in April 1849 in SE/VaLA/00222 Linköpings
domkyrkoförsamling C I:9 (1846-1857) Bild 29 / sid 47.
There was a Gustaf Alfred born 23 Apr with father Gustaf Jonsson, Johan
Alfred born 26 Apr with father Johan Bergström, and Svante Alfred born
30 Apr with father Carl Magnus Lundholm, so none of these should be
called Alfred Svensson.
And no Alfred born April 1849 in SE/VALA/00223 Linköpings S:t Lars C I:7
(1846-1860) Bild 25 / sid 37.
So perhaps he was from the Linköping area, not from Linköping itself? or
the birthdate is wrong...
Perhaps someone can find him in EMIBAS?
He came to America from
Gothenburg Sweden on a ship of the "Anchor Line" arriving at the port of
New York about the 15th of August 1874. He was naturalized the 13th of
March 1918 in Stevens County, Minnesota, USA.
--- I had earlier found this possibility:
Name: ALFRED JOHANSSON
County: E (Östergötland)
Fellows: NEJ (Alone)
Source code: 8:345:5886
I don't see him in the 1874 moving-out records SE/VALA/00183 Kisa C:11
(1871-1880) Bild 240 / sid 471.
So perhaps he wasn't actually from Kisa, or he left without giving
notice to the parish office.
He might be Nils Alfred Johansson, born 1850-10-10 Fliseryd Kalmar
county, who is recorded as run-away to America. SE/VALA/00183 Kisa AI:16
(1872-1876) Bild 203 / sid 498.
That does't look very promising to be your Alfred Swanson...
We have gotten his death record, his land records, census records, and
naturalization both on intent and final papers. He first settled in
Willow Lake, Clark County South Dakota where eight children were born to
him and his wife Minnie sometimes Mary or Minnie Mary. A child may have
been entered in a Union Co. SD delayed Birth register long after 1897.
They came to Minnesota in 1899 by covered wagon, lived by Hancock for
about a year then bought a farm in Rendsville township of Stevens County

How can I decipher 400+ pages if I hope to search this book for father
of Alfred Swanson? Svenson / Svensson surname variations possible.
Would I look in the Bouppteckning registry of 1874 for the deceased
father of the ancestor who may have left this area, before boarding a
ship in August 1874?
I am finding some of the entries with German words mentioning Hamburg on
page 400 - 401, but I see no relevance to the names I search.
