Wow! Thanks for all the info! I've looked at all three of the sites you listed in
the past, but didn't know how they could best be used. Also, does the name and
address advice mean taking it off down here? Thanks again! Hej då!

Welcome to our list. (A word of warning: Do you really want your full name and address
listed in the Rootsweb list archive for the rest of your days?)
SVAR has both transcribed records (such as the 1890 and 1900 Swedish Census; and some
earlier ones: in both Swedish and English) and some records on Swedish convicts
(transcribed and scanned; with photos of the convicts) and so forth.
It also has scans of the actual parish records, which are going to be in Swedish since
that is the language of the country and of our ancestors. If you use the Swedish section
of the site, you will find extractions of birth, marriage, and death records until 1939.
There are all sorts of scanned goodies and they vary depending upon the parish, but SVAR
is one of the three services with scanned parish records that I am subscribed to for
All three are fee-based subscription sites. All have a summer special offer at the moment.
All require that you download a program to read the images. These sites are not equivalent
in what they cover, so you need to make sure the parishes and time periods and types of
records you need are scanned before subscribing. I like all three. Each one is best in at
least one way.
Arkiv Digital tends to have the best images since they scanned from the originals and not
from microfilm, but there have been times that I could read the image more easily on SVAR

I'm new here. SVAR sounds interesting. What kind of information can you get from it?
Is it in Swedish (I hope)? Thanks.
