This week, someone wrote and asked for any information in the book
'Cradled in Sweden' regarding 'Railroad Brokers' who urged people to
emigrate to the US. I thought I had saved the email, but now cannot
find it. I hope I remembered correctly......
I have looked and have not found that info in the book but it does tell
about 'The Larsson Brothers Emigration Papers'. I am going to quote
from page 85 of the book:
"Some decades ago a large collection of papers, etc., was discovered
having to do with the activities of one of the largest emigration
agencies in Sweden, the Larsson Brothers, who operated in Central and
Southern Sweden with main offices in Malmö and Göteborg, enticing people
to emigrate to the United States."
Evidently this collection is in the FHLC under SWEDEN, EMIGRATION AND
IMMIGRATION, BRÖDERNA LARSSON & CO. 'Cradled in Sweden' goes on to say
that "the collection is slow in using to try to find an individual, as
there is no name index, but the reward is great when something is
found". It covers the years from 1873 to 1913 and contains a great deal
of information, including letters from both satisfied and unsatisfied
emigrants and immigrants. It is classified as to items, ticket stubs,
Maybe this will help the person who originally wrote.
Good luck, Joy Gulden
