Good morning All, I joined this list not long ago,
even though I have no
Swedish ancestors that I know of, in the hope that I
would find someone who
is knowledgeable about 18th Century Swedish history
who would be willing to
answer some questions for me, for another research
project I am working on.
In the meantime, I have been intrigued by the
Swedish surnames. Surnames
and their evolutions have always interested me and I
hope someone will be
willing to answer a question I don't believe has
been discussed on the list.
Please accept my apologies if this is an intrusion.
Here is my question: Am I mistaken, or were some
Swedish surnames Latinized
in the 18th century? For example: Linnaeus,
Jensenius. When was this
done, by whom, and why? Is there anything else that
would be interesting to
know about this?
Thank you for letting me take up your time. Anyone
who prefers to respond
off-list can email me at edieb(a)hypernet.com I hope
to hear from someone
