I have tried various permutations of the above and could find nothing that
matches in the Sweden Population Index 1880 - 1920.
Given that I believe he left Sweden in 1886, does his absence from the Index
prove conclusively that he was not Swedish ? I have no other details on him
except his name and his parents' names, Louis & Anne, and that he was a
seaman aged 21 in 1886.
He could still have been Swedish.
Some of your information might be in error, he might have taken the name
Bergman(?) after emigrating, and if he was a sailor he might not have
formally emigrated, just left his ship in a foreign harbor.
