I hope you're not thinking of my Belton in Axholme, Lincs.
because they came from Yorkshire and eventually Derbyshire. They came to
Belton on marrying a Popplewell of that village in 1752.
I was thinking of the 'Butchers of Gainsborough'. There was a family of
Steers who were butchers in and around Gainsborough from the 16th thro' 18th
centuries. I think that these were my line by I haven't yet sufficient
information to prove this. Gainsborough being close to the Nottinghamshire
and Yorkshire borders it could well be that these families originated from
over the border but earlier than 1550.
I know about the Popplewell-Steers, they're very interesting.
