I see there is a Richard STEERE baptised 8 January 1818 at Rudgwick, Sussex,
son of Richard & Mary STEERE, Carpenter, from Crowhurst, Surrey.
All together there are two showing them from Crowhurst and four saying from
Ewhurst, Surrey. Three have the name STEER and the other three STEERE. All
dates between 1813 and 1822.
This is from a transcript published by the P.R.T. Society see
and look in the Arun series to see parishes listed in West Sussex.
Still looking for William STEER c1820 son of a William STEER, Painter &
Glazier, who lived in St Leonard's & later possibly Brighton. He married in
Baldock, Herts, in 1856 and was supposedly a licensed victualler from
Brighton. Only found in the 1861 in St Leonard's, now a Fly Driver &
Proprietor, birthplace Baldock, but no trace there. ESRO totally failed to
find anything of use when I paid them megabucks, so where now!
