Thank you to all those who have been in touch. n/t means no trace, so yes Emma has been
found in GRO but not Ernest.
I have since searched the 1871 on Emma 1865-1867 born Sussex, and looked at the likely
ones that are in or around Brighton without
joy. I done it previously on all the first names of all the family.
It could be that they deliberately avoided the enumerator, or gave totally false details,
or the page of the enumerators book is
missing. I have had this latter happen in the 1861 Southampton where the address is on the
description but totally missing on the
film from the National Archives. It is common for the back page of the books to come off
and get lost.
However they are still missing in 1881, father could be dead, mother remarried, but no
hits on name with birthplace searches.
I obviously need to spend a few weeks at ESRO in Lewes, but that will have to wait.
