I have had limited success with my Steer autosomal DNA matches, mainly due to lack of people testing, I think.
Twylla-Dawn Steer has matches with a few Outram descendants, and my paternal cousin has one. I have one confirmed Steer match, no Outram matches. We are all descended from Edward Steer and Alicia Outram of Limpsfield, Surrey, then John Steer and Ann Steer. My cousin and I are descended from Mary Anne Steer and George Dawson/Dawes (unmarried), son John Steer born 1814 in Crowhurst, Surrey. This family has been extensively discussed before so I won't give more details, happy to give them if anyone new to the list is interested.
Today I have found that Twylla-Dawn has a match with someone descended from Mary Anne Steer and James Wood married 1818 in Crowhurst, Surrey.
So, confirmation (long thought to be the case) that Mary Anne Steer who fathered John and Thomas went on to marry James Wood.
DNA inheritance is a varied and unpredictable matter, I would have thought that my cousin and I would be a match with this 4th cousin, rather than Twylla-Dawn, a 4th cousin once removed. She shares only a small amount of DNA with him, 6.2 cM, which is very little, so they nearly missed out on a match as well.
