Can anyone sort this Steer family for me please?
On 3 February 1845 there is a joint marriage at St John the Baptist, Croydon
(PR viewed), Page 55, numbers 109 & 110.
One couple is Alexander STEER, full age, bachelor, Tailor, Selsdon, Surrey,
Father George STEER, Farmer, and Mary Ann DUNGATE, full age, spinster,
Selsdon, Surrey, Father James DUNGATE, Bailiff. Alexander made his mark, she
signed before witnesses Henry STEER & Esther OUTTRAM.
The next couple is Henry STEER full age, bachelor, Farmer, Selsdon, Surrey,
Father George STEER, Farmer, and Esther OUTTRAM, full age, spinster,
Selsdon, Surrey, Father John OUTTRAM, Farmer. Both signed before witnesses
Alexander STEER (x) and Mary Ann DUNGATE.
This indicates that Alexander & Henry are brothers, but there is no baptism
I've found for a Henry to a George.
Neither of the fathers named George are farmers from records seen so far, a

There are three Alexander's, one the son of George & Amelia baptised 27 June
1824 Limpsfield, who I think this is, another baptised 22 Feb 1824
Limpsfield the son of George & Mary Anne, and the last that can be
discounted was baptised 30 November 1823 to Edward & Mary. Neither of the
first two have a brother Henry.
Alexander son of George & Mary Anne is with his family in 1841 and in 1851
can be found as a Gardener in High Clere, Hampshire, in Cheshire in 1861 as
a Gardener Landscape Foreman, married in the Gravesend area, Kent in 1866 to
Alexander son of George & Amelia is with his family in 1841. In 1851 he is
with his married sister Maria CRANE in Bromley, Kent, shown as a Tailor
though put as unmarried. However Mary Ann is in Limpsfield visiting her
widowed father. In 1861 he & Mary Ann are in Limpsfield living with Mary
Ann's father, still a Tailor.
The occupation ties in Alexander with sister Maria and indicates he is the
Henry is shown aged 28 in 1851, 38 in 1861 & 48 in 1871, born Limpsfield. I
had thought that Henry who married Esther OUTTRAM was the son of Edward &
Lucy baptised 10 December 1823, but obviously not.
To be this Alexander's brother he would have to be born after Caroline
baptised 9 December 1821 and before Alexander baptised 27 June 1824.
