I am sure you are getting a lot of requests. If you are not too inundated,
could you look for an Edward Gray STRONG on that list? I believe he would be
on the Civil List, as he was employed by Ceylon Government Railways.

You're in luck. I have some fragments of the Ceylon Civil List
1875, and
you man is listed:
George Burton
Position: Draughtsman and Framer of Estimates, Southern Province, Public
Works Department
Date of Appointment: 7 April 1868
Time in Service: 8 years, 8 months, zero days [for pension?]
Salary: Rs4500 (£450)
Remarks: Mr Burton was employed as Assistant Surveyor on the Unfixed
Establishment of the Surveyor-General from 1 May 1866, up to the date of
his
transfer to the Public Works Dept in 1868.
