There has been some interest in Ceylon Almanacs recently. I think they refer to some I
posted on this site some time ago and have been taken up and placed on a web site
somewhere. Essentially they are year books which contain the name, occupation and
village/town/city of the inhabitants. The reason some pages are missing is that I only
copied the pages I was interested in and posted them for the interest of others.
The Almanacs are held at various places, mainly the British Library in London. A full list
is available on Ian Pontyz's site at
However, please note that they are not available on the open shelves of the BL, they have
to be ordered some days in advance of your visit. You will need a Reader's ticket
before you can order. I do not know the situation at other libraries.
