APPOO, John Jacob(Jacobus)
born c. 1822 Trincomalee, Ceylon, s/o John Emmanuel APPOO, merchant.
Left Galle for London and obtained Seaman's ticket in 1851. Did not appear to return
to Ceylon. He was a steward on several ships.
He married in London and lived in Australia and NZ.
I have checked early Ceylon films at Mormon library but as the paper was thin when filmed
and written on both sides it was difficult to read.
I feel there may have been a Catholic background and I have no knowledge of a caste. I
have pages from anearly Gazette and although there are long names with Appoo included
in them it all seems beyond me.
To obtain a birth entry I need a mother's name.
Has anyone any suggestions to establish this family in Ceylon?
I understand the name originates in the north of India.
When do you give up??
