Hi Glen and all,
Frederick Grace Smith was my great-uncle.
Sadly, I can provide little more info than Anne, Larry and Coreen have already.
I'm not sure when he came to Melbourne, but I have the feeling that it was well before
my family came out in 1967. We did visit him fairly soon after we arrived, and a couple of
other times in the following years. I must admit I don't recall much of the
conversations, I was too busy chasing around in the back yard with A.Joyce's
children. They all lived there too.
I have not had any contact with A. Joyce or her children for many years. She had four,
Elizabeth, Mark, Ricky and Robyn. .
Just one little correction: It was another brother who married the other Pate sister.
Arthur Julian married Ivy
Frederick Grace married Irene
James Willard married Dorothy Bartholomeusz, they are my grandparents
Glen, are you a long-lost rellie?

In the 1927 Directory he is listed as House Surgeon of the Victoria Memorial

and also as a 2nd Lt in the Ceylon Medical Corps.
Frederick Grace Smith and his brother James Willard Smith married Pate
There is a Pate website on Rootsweb which states the Ceylon Pate family were
