Nick, there is a self written precis of the career of G H M Hyde, in
England and Ceylon, with portrait, in "Twentieth Century Impressions of
Ceylon" page 123. The Gilliat name has been associated with Ceylon since
the 1860s at least. Hydes appear in Commerce and Planters lists, as does
Gilliat, up to at least 1926. The Mackwood name is found in Ceylon from the
1860s too. The family business had large interests in commerce and planting.
If you know what religion the family was it would help with searching
