Maria Sophia (surname unknown) was born at Jaffna, Ceylon 17 Jan 1782
to Hanoverian parents who were member of the Dutch church. She
married a man by the name of Mr. Kicken in Ceylon (perhaps about
1800?). Kicken was a military officer in the Dutch service. He was
transferred to Batavia, Java. When her husband was appointed
Commandant of the Island of Ceram, she stayed behind in Java. It is
supposed that the husband died in Ceram. This couple had two
children. I'm not sure if they were born in Ceylon or Batavia, Java.
Maria Sophia later married James Knaggs in Java and then Rev. William
Robinson in Sumatra.
If anyone recognizes this family or knows where I could find birth or
marriage records from Sri Lanka, I'd be very grateful to have that
