Patricia, there are LDS films for deaths in Colombo over this period.
Colombo was divided into a number of districts when Civil Registration
was introduced in 1897.
We have identified four and suggest you start with The Fort division,
film No 1455047 items 1 to 4 which cover the year spread you are looking
for.
The other Colombo divisions we have identified are Slave Island,
Maradana and Kotahena which also have the year spread you are looking
for. We have not had a need to view these films so cannot say what the
condition is like.
Once you find a death date you could look in Ceylon and India papers, as
well as The Times"" for a death notice or obituary.
The Times can be searched online for a fee or through Universities and
some libraries for free.
Unfortunately we have not seen Allens Indian Mail, or any other Indian
paper in google books, for that time period yet.
Another area of untapped research for burials is the records of the
Undertakers and Stone Masons in Colombo. A F Raymond and Co were
probably the biggest and there are 3 others listed in Colombo in 1927.
Pate and Son Slave Island,
Walles and Co Colpetty Rd
B K Yusoof Hospital St.
There is a lovely website with information on the Raymond family
business beginnings, although not historically accurate as Gov North
left Ceylon in 1805 so it must have been a different Governor that was
patron for the business in 1840!
There is also a business site with current address, phone number etc if
you do get lucky. Type a f raymond colombo into google and all will be
revealed. Happy hunting. Larry and Coreen Andresen
