Nineteen year old Minna Hagart married a 53 year old Lt. Colonel Thomas
Williams in the east end of London in May 1857. In December they were on
their way to India. Eventually, before 1870, when Thomas died in London a
Major General he was in command at Lucknow according to his obituary in The
Times. He had two children by Minna, a Frederik Pode Williams and Minna
Francis Williams. Frederik was present in Edinburgh when his mother died
there in 1886 but his address is given as Ceylon.
Minna Hagart's father, William Dickson Hagart, died in Edinburgh in 1888
- in his will he gives the address of Frederick as the "Minna Plantation,
Ceylon". Recently, from papers in the hands of Australian descendants of this
family I have an address for Frederick Pode Williams. It is Doone Vale
Estate, Nakiadeniya P.O. Via Galle, Ceylon.
The sister, Minna Frances, evidently moved back to England and married a
Marston Willoughby Garcia, Doctor of Medicine and lived in 1888 at 25 Park
Parade, Harrogate. The Australians have her as Mrs. Garcia Woodford at
Clarence Park, Weston Super Mare.
That's it. If anyone knows ought of these people or places I would be
thrilled to hear of it.
