To all on the List
I have an old photograph of a tablet hung in the Cathedral Church, Colombo
in memory of my G G Grandfather Hon James Caulfeild, Treasurer of Ceylon in
1854. I have received recent information that the cathedral is St Peter's
Church, Fort, Colombo.
There are two plarks either side of above mentioned tablet and one below. I
also have another photograph where the details of one of the plarks on each
side are legible The details on these plarks are as follows:
Francis William Willisford, M.D.
Born August 7th 181Died May 25th 1870
"I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord, he that believeth in
me though he were dead yet shall he live"
(what a marvelous verse from the Bible)
The other plark reads
Lieut. H. R. Ievers ??? Artillery,
who died at sea, 2nd Sept 1864, age 32
W. M. No 112, I.C.
This tablet is erected by the brethren of his lodge
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was,and the spirit shall
return unto God who gave it.
The question marks above represent some letters that are difficult to
decipher. I think they read R N. The N is a bit of a guess but the R is
likely to be correct. Since the person might have been in the navy R N
could be a possibility.
On closer examination the plarks are actually tablets. The Willisford one
which is on the left is rectangular (longest side horizontal) and the
Ievers one is a star.
Hope this is of help to some one on the list.
