Another plea for help!
I am trying to gather information on the life of Walston G. D. Lawrence,
whom I think was a Burgher or Eurasian resident of Ceylon during the first
half of the 1900s.
Regrettably, all I know about him at this point is:
a) born in 1897 in Colombo, Ceylon;
b) worked at the Times of Ceylon before the Great War;
c) served in the mercantile marine during the early phases of the Great War;
d) served in the (British) Army Service Corps (Motor Transport Section)
during the latter part of the Great War, being posted to Bangalore India;
e) served on the North West Frontier (of India) in the 1919 war against
Afghanistan, (still in the Army Service Corps, MT Section).
That's all I have been able to ascertain. He seems to have remained largely
under the radar, in terms of historical record, (ie., I can't find him in
Ferguson's Ceylon Directory -- at least not the editions I have access to --
but maybe someone else will have better luck! ;-)
What are my chances of finding, at least, basic biographical data, like
birth, marriage, death?
Thank you for any assistance. It will be most appreciated, I assure you.
