Many thanks for your email. I was hoping it may show records of BMD's as
well as passenger lists.
I have been thinking of you both during the awful flooding in Queensland
recently and hope you were not badly affected. I note you have a new email
address from when we last corresponded. I did take your advice and went to
the NA earlier this month with my sister and waded through the Ceylon Times,
but there were so many, we didn't manage to look through all of the years.
Found the Ceylon Government Gazette excellent too. The other 2 newspapers
were a bit on the large size, so we didn't attempt those. I may go again on
my own, but firstly will visit the India Office. Have been once back in the
1980's when the Library was in Blackfriars, so will be interesting to visit
a different site.

Subject: [SRILANKA] Allen's Indian Mail.
Allen's Indian Mail was printed in London and BMD entries ex India/Ceylon
up to 4 months later than the event. There are some copies on Googlebooks.
They are a very underutilised resource and it is where we found the
James Thomas Anderson death notice, as well as a number of marriages and
births where no Jaffna church records exist. There are copies in the India
Office collection for 1843 and from 1845 to 1891. There is a good run of
in the National Library of Australia too. cheers, Larry&Coreen
