Might be a bit of a coincidence but I have just been replying to an Anne
Winter Williams who has been querying links with my family in Ceylon, and
she also mentions a Doctor Gray.
As it happens my sister-in-law Joan has just informed me that my mother
(Grace Gray) had a brother named Cosby, that I knew little of, except that
he was born Circa 1880 and worked on the C. G. Rly.
Joan Gray's message reads:
Your Mother had a brother called Cosby. I have a written copy from the
Ceylon Daily News dated l4/4/l930. - Obituary - Mrs Cosby Gray. Mrs Avis
Gray, widow of the late Mr Cosby Gray, Head Guard CGR Colombo who
predeceased her about eight months ago. She leaves behind four sons and
two daughters. Maybe one of those four sons had a son called Humphrey who
married Mary Winter, the aunt of your correspondent:- Anne Winter Williams
It is possible that one of Cosby's and Avis's sons was a Doctor and had a
son named Humphrey who as Joan says married Anne Winter William's aunt, Mary
So both these queries might be in connection with the same family group,
whose details we sadly do not have. So if anyone does have any details
about the issue and further descendants of Cosby and Avis we sure would

Subject: GRAY - Rubber Planter
Have just received marriage record information giving me the
name of the bride's father. I wonder if anyone has
connections with this family.
I understand Lucy was born in Kandy (c1876) but don't know
if this is where the family lived.
George GRAY, rubber planter. (living there at least c1876
when daughter born)
George's daughter - Lucy - born c1876 in Ceylon, later
married a HYSON and lived in Portland, Maine, USA
George's son - Dr. Henry GRAY - who was still living in
Ceylon in 1943 (from Lucy's obituary)
I'd be happy to hear of any links with this family. Thank
