Greetings to all on this list,
I live in Australia and have just joined. I am hoping that someone may be
able to give me some help please.
My parents were in Sri Lanka in 1924/25.
My father worked on a plantation in KELANI VALLEY.
I would like to know where this is located in Sri Lanka, particularly in
relation to Kandy and Colombo, and whether it would have been a rubber or a
tea plantation in this area. I have not been able to find it on any maps I
have looked at.
I believe the manager or perhaps owner was a Harry SCHOFIELD.
My parents were friendly with a family by the name of MORRISON who had two
daughters, Muriel and Beryl (very young children in 1924/5). I have a photo
of them taken at a place called Manaar which I believe is a bay between
India and Sri Lanka.
My eldest brother was born at, I believe, Mt Lavinia, in January 1925.
Would his birth have been registered anywhere in Ceylon, or as the parents
were both English, would the birth have been registered at the GRO/PRO in
London? If the birth would have been registered in Sri Lanka, where would I
enquire for a birth certificate or copy of registration?
Many thanks in anticipation of any replies I may receive.
