There has been a change of Bishop and librarian since I was there Feb last
but the most important aid they have is 500 neat typewritten pages of
marriage and baptism entries from all over the Island, which have been Alpha
family collated, and were compiled by the late Sam Mottau in 1972.
these are NOT on LDS film. We have found no pre 1900 Anglican records on LDS
films yet, but have found a few
scattered post 1900 entries on Registration Office LDS films. Cheers, L&C
Greetings from France to all listers !
I am looking for one of my ancestors, the above Robert John Henderson. He was born in Co Donegal, Ireland in about 1847.
In the British 1871 census, Robert is a second officer in the Mercantile Marines.
In 1879 he married Alice Leslie Marriott, daughter of Edwin Marriott, a colonel in the Bengal Army. Robert & Alice’s marriage took place in Jersey, Channel Is.
At the time of his marriage,Robert is living in Clifton, Gloucestershire.
In 1881 they are in the Canadian Census, with their daughter Pauline – Robert is a Law Clerk in this census.
In 1891 census, Alice is in England with the two children, Pauline & Leslie, living in Hampshire. No sign of Robert !
Their daughter Pauline married in 1897, to John L.S. Hatton, a barrister and mathematician. The Times announcement said that Pauline was daughter
of Robert J. Henderson of Colombo.
Can anyone tell me what he would have been doing there ? I don’t even know where to start to look !!!
Just this week, I have found a further detail which is intriguing....
Robert’s wife, Alice , married a George Bodge in Boston, Mass. USA, in 1901. On the marriage document she states that she is a widow.....
However, I thought that Robert had died in 1909 in Clifton, Gloucestershire !
Unless , of course, he died much earlier in Colombo !!!
Any help at all would be really great appreciated – many thanks
