According to their catalogue, there is a set of 'The Jewish World' 1873 to
1934 in the British Library. It is not quite clear if it is complete, as
the year 1905 is not explicitly mentioned in the holdings details. To look
at it in London you would need to register as a reader, and probably order
it in advance (I'm a bit out of date with the BL's arrangements).
It might be worth speaking to professional library staff at a county main
library, college library or at the Society of Genealogists to get advice on
whether a photocopy might be obtained without visiting London.

Many thanks for your swift reply. Although our source is Dr Richard
an eminent Jewish historian, from a piece in the Mariners Mirror in May
1985, we have found quite a few errors (and lots of new info), so are
to build a true and comprehensive story. He specifically states the article
is in Jewish World, not the Jewish Chronicle, and the date is 20 October
1905. The article in the Jewish Chronicle for that date is, as you say,
about Moses Benjamin, and references an earlier article of 22 September,
which IS the 'interview' about Richard Barnett, our ancestor. It is highly
likely his source data is wrong, but we just wanted to triple check by
finding Jewish World. There's a fascinating new article in embryo here!
In cases like this, try a Google search of the internet !!
As you said the Jewish World was formerly the Jewish Chronicle, I searched
for the Jewish Chronicle Archives, and found that it has an online search
facility. Searching for Nelson from 1900 to 1910 gives the result I
you are looking for Page 10: Oct 20, 1905 has such a reference, and the
whole paper is available for download for registered users.
It takes just a minute to register, then you can see the entire paper or
just the page you are looking for.
The graphic reproduction of John Benjamin's trade licence is not very well
reproduced. The article mentions John's wife, thus the daughter-in-law of
Moses Benjamin, but it is not an interview with her per-se as far as I can
The link to the page is
Hope that helps
My 4x gt grandfather served with Nelson on his flagship Vanguard at the
Battle of the Nile and wrote a unique journal of the battle which is still
with the family.
We are trying to assemble the full story, and have learnt there is an
interview with his daughter in the 20 October 1905 edition of 'Jewish
- later taken over by the Jewish Chronicle. I and my US cousins have tried
everything we can think of to locate where a copy may be held, but drawn a
blank. Does anyone have any ideas?
