It is good news that the General Register Office now makes its database
of death entries available for searching; I presume that its fear of
fraud has been allayed, or at least reduced. However it seems
regrettable that it gives only the quarter, and not the month, of
registration, and only the year of birth. It seems that we shall have
to continue to read the microfiche if we are not buying a certificate
(uncertified copies are not being sold), but at least we shall know
which one to read for any given death.
