Hope someone on this list can answer these questions.
I have an ancestor William LAMEY who was a gunner's mate on HMS Viper
during the Crimean war.
ADM 171/28 lists him as being entitied to clasps "S + A". Documentation
elsewhere indicates he had two clasps.
Am I correct as assuming these are AZOFF and SEBASTOPOL?
He also appears in the AZOFF roll in ADM 171/25.
Is there a separate medal roll for the SEBASTOPOL clasp? I've not found
him (or his ship) in either the Naval brigade personnel (ADM 171/24) or
the Marine brigade prsonnel (ADM 171/23)? Is there some other roll he
should be on? Does anyone know what exactly were the qualifications for
the SEBASTOPOL clasp?
Finally, I gather there was also a Turkish Crimea medal awarded to
British participants. Was this automatically awarded to all who
qualified for the Crimea medal? I gather supplies were lost at sea and
not everyone got one. Is this the meaning of the "T" in ADM 171/28?
