Jeff,
You are preaching to the choir. We know how bad things have gotten. That's why we
have asked for assistance (and have in previous years, too).
We appreciate the effort, and you've done a great job with the page designs. I wish
we could start over and you could want to know us as people and as volunteers. We are not
perfect, and we all have lives outside the USGenWeb Project, but we have been here holding
things together as best we could for a long time. Respectful two-way communication is the
only way we will dig out of this and be a strong project again. We are hopeful that it can
happen.

Hello All
I usually don't get involved in these sort of discussions. However I need to say a few
things.
I started with the USGW in 1996 and I still maintain that original county. I have
personally built probably more then fifty counties and about 6 states give or take a few
counties. I have done hundreds of graphics for these counties and even other counties
& states that I never CC'd. I won't even begin to mention money spent, my wife
would absolutely kill me!
I was asked to assist in helping South Carolina rebuild. I first reviewed the whole state
website and every county all 45 I believe is the correct number. Several counties were in
good condition, I won't name names, most had not been touched in years as long ago as
2006. One county was completely down, several with graphics not loading and I lost track
of sites with non functioning links. In total 25 of 45 counties were either not loading,
adoptable or had CC's that deserted. Worst I have ever seen, in my years of service to
the Project.
I do know that I have tried several times over the years to become a CC in the SCGenWeb
never once receiving a reply.
The counties that my family lived in while in SC are currently being CC'd by Paul.
I'll let Paul attest to my discussions/emails with him in the last couple of weeks, if
he so wishes.
And so everything is crystal clear I purchased the domain name
www.scgenweb.org and used
my own hosting account to begin repairing SCGenWeb, this was done before my
learning/reviewing the sad shape South Carolina was in.
I also know from experience that the folks who volunteer and become CC's and never
update their sites or ones that just like to have their name on a website or the ones that
just like to have power are the ones that holler and complain the most when transformation
takes place. These are also the ones a true managing State Coordinator has to every so
often remind them that their website needs attention. These are usually the first to cause
division and try to assume control also.
I did not get involved to make a name for myself. I believe I have done that already and
my work and time and money proves that! I did not get involved with SCGenWeb because I
need more States or Counties to manage, the Good Lord knows I have enough. Nor do I do if
for power, my wife only allows me to have so much of that. I was asked by a good, honest,
hard working friend and member of this project for help.
I already have 30 plus hours in the project not to mention a couple bucks. I have adopted
two counties that I have zero connections too. I was going to do three but a mistake was
made regarding that one and that mistake was corrected ASAP. However not until I had spent
10 hours redoing the county.
So from my stand point if you want to remain with the same State project you had then
you'll continue to listen to the same old song and that is your choice! However if you
want something better for the SCGenWeb the you'll need to assist Denise in her
choices.
Thanks

Denise,
I thought I had given you access to the mail list I created. I thought
giving you co-admin authority you could do what you needed. Obviously, I
was wrong. Co-admin didn't do the job. Now that you have created your own
list, I won't have to turn it over to you this morning as I had originally
planned, a bit later than last night when I had no access to my computer,
but not an unreasonable delay.
I received an email from you last night demanding that I turn over my mail
list to you. Since I have responsibilities beyond the GenWeb and this is a
volunteer "job," those other responsibilities have to take precedence. I
couldn't get to my computer to do anything due to my other responsibilities.
You, however, are very impatient and just didn't give me enough time, not
even 24 hours. This does not bode well with me. As acting state
coordinator, you will have to give people enough time to take care of
things. THIS IS A VOLUNTEER JOB WE DO FOR THE LOVE OF IT.
This state is under dire circumstances. I am grateful for your help to
straighten this out. The few of us left have tried to do the best we could.
However, by using pressure tactics, you may well loose more CCs. Even your
statement in this communication, " We are certainly not interested in
"firing" active coordinators; however, all changes that were posted need to
be made to your counties as soon as possible. If you need assistance
getting that done, you should make a request," sounds threatening. Now that
you have demanded my mail list and are in effect demanding that changes be
made "as soon as possible", I would be a bit leery of giving you my access
information to my website. Yes, you can ask rootsweb for help on my site
but other websites are not housed where you can get to them. If someone
needed "help" they would give you full access to their sites in order for
you to help. I, for one, would be hesitant. By the way, I have made changes
to my website already. Did them the first day the logos were available.
But that doesn't mean that other CCs may be away for the holidays, yes this
soon as many are retired, and not able to make these corrections yet.
This is the holidays. People go on vacation and have other things do to at
this time of the year. Your timing could have been better if you started
this "pressure" after the first of the year. Give people a chance to make
the changes. Yes, a few weeks until after the holidays seems a long time,
but please be patient and give people time to accomplish the task. Stop
using "bullying" tactics, please. Start using some patience. Don't get
all
"huffy" now because I have taken you to task for what I perceive as being
unreasonable. Please, please calm down and let's get the work done in a
patient and forgiving manner. Instantaneous isn't going to happen in an
organization of volunteers, never has, never will.
Now, I hope you have a happy holiday season. Thank you again for taking on
this difficult task. Just add a bit of patience to your repertoire and
things my go a bit smoother.

For those of you who are CCs in South Carolina, I have created a new
official mail group for CC business. In order for me to effectively manage
the responsibilities of the state, I cannot do it through a mail list for
which I cannot access the subscriber information. You should have received
a welcome email to that new group.
If you are currently a CC for SCGenWeb and have not received a welcome email
and added to the list, please let me know privately. I will then add you to
that mail list.
I apologize for needing to do this, but I have so much to do that I cannot
operate by needing to wait to obtain information. It needs to be
instantaneous. I do work full time; however, I do have access to my email
on my phone and at times through work.
Private business for individual CCs are not to be handled on the mail list.
It is for notifications and discussions, but please write privately to
myself and Jeff Kemp if you have an issue. We are certainly not interested
in "firing" active coordinators; however, all changes that were posted need
to be made to your counties as soon as possible. If you need assistance
getting that done, you should make a request.
Bottom line is that from now on use the new Google Group mail list, or send
private email to myself and Jeff Kemp. Thanks.
