Subject: [SACKETT] Another problem with Weygant's information
Hello Sackett Searchers
Weygant, page 113
271. Josiah Crego Sackett, 17__-17__, youngest son of (75) Capt.
Richard and Margery L. Sleade Sackett, was born at Dover, Dutchess
County, N. Y., and resided for several years previous to his death at
New Milford, Conn. He married about 1650 a Miss Douglass whose mother
is supposed to have been a sister of Col. Philip Skeen, of Albany
County, N. Y. Mr. Sackett and his wife died several years previous to
the commencement of the war of the Revolution, and their orphan children
were distributed among their mother's people.
[As noted on page 59, Weygant used an abstraction of Capt. Richard
Sackett's will which led him to the erroneous conclusion that there was
a son named Josiah Crego Sackett. Josiah Crego was Richard's step-son,
the son of Margery L.______ by her first husband, Stephen Crego.
Therefore, we are uncertain as to the parents of the children ascribed
to Josiah Crego Sackett and Miss Douglass.]
725. Nelly Sackett, m. Simeon Kelsey.
726. Prime Sackett.
727. Prince Sackett.
728. ______ Sackett.
729. Skene Douglas Sackett, 1765-1832[sic]; m. Hannah Sexton
Our Sackett researchers have determined that Josiah Crego Sackett did
not exist. Along with that problem, there are other problems with the
information Weygant has for Josiah and his family.
First: Josiah Crego Sackett, 17__-17__, is said to have married in 1650.
Evidently a typo for 1750.
Second: 725. Nelly Sackett, m. Simeon Kelsey. However, the marriage
record for the marriage of Simeon Kelsey indicates that he and Nelly
Sackett were married in 1754:
Kent CT Marriages as found in; "Early Connecticut Marriages"
by Frederick Bailey
1741 to 1757
Simeon Kelsey & Nelly Sackett of Dover, N. Y., Aug. 22, 1754
The Find A Grave Memorials for Simeon Kelsey [Memorial# 22195334] and
his 2 wives indicate that his 1st wife, Elenor (Nelly) died in 1793, age
61. [Memorial# 22195309] His 2nd wife/consort died in 1813, age 50.
From this, Simeon and Nelly were married for about 22 years before the
Rev. War started. She died in 1793, age 61 which indicates that she was
born about 1732. Her alleged younger brother, Skene Douglas Sackett, was
born in 1765, 11 years after Nelly was married. This eliminates her as
being one of the "orphan children" who were supposed to have been
distributed among their mother's relatives.
Anyone have any idea who the parents of Elenor "Nelly" Sackett might
