The primary source of Samuel Vanhook's captivity I believe comes from the
deposition he made in either Bourbon or Harrison Co., KY and being listed with
his son Samuel Jr. in Captain Gatliff's company up until the time the fort was
taken. Virginia commissioner records also indicate that Samuel Vanhook and
his son Samuel Jr. had enlisted in the British service (probably Butler's
Rangers) at Detroit as did many other of the captives.
