April, I will respond to the entire list as others are also interested:
Benajmin Barber b. 10 Mar 1786/87 Kingston RI, d. 1792 Westerly RI m.
Mary Tefft b. ca. 1705, the daughter of John Tefft and Joanna Sprague.
They had6 children Lydia, Nathan, Mercy, Mary, Janna, and Ruth. Ref is
Westerly Will 6A:171 See Beaman vol 4. Benjamin Barber was admitted a
freeman in S. Kingston Oct 1728 and purchased 3600 acres of land in
Westerly 26 Apr 1750 from Godfrey Malbone of Newport. This marriage
occurred 11 Jan 1729 in Newport.
Benjamin Barber married 20 Aug 1783 Mary Perry b. 19 Nov 1735. If
this is accurate, Mary would have died before Benjamin Barber because
she is not listed in his will. They had Benajmin Perry Barber b. 29 Jan
1785 , d. 23 Nov 1868 buried Barber Ground #2 in Westerly. He married
Hannah Maryott b. ca 1788 d. 3 Jan 1855, the daughter of Henry Marryott
and Mary Saunders. They had 10 children (all Barbers) I have much
details on them also.
Hope this helps
Bill Maryott

Dear Mr. Maryott,
I hope you will not mind my writing since I do not share a direct line
with you, but I am a bit "befuddled" after having received a rather
strange gedcom from an idividual who lists your Benjamin Perry Barber
twice, 1st as son of Benj. Barber and Mary Tefft with a note saying he
was actually son of Mary Perry (I know!) with a m. to Hannah Merriot, 13
March 1806 at Hopkinton, Rhode Island and 10 children then as s/o Benj.
and Mary Perry with a m. to Nancy Anna Tefft [no date] and 1 child named
Mary [born during the time of the other 10 [1815] by his file but in
Norwich, NY!!!]
Well... I would normally just disregard all this as poor genealogy
except that Nancy Anna Tefft is listed as d/o John Tefft and Anna
Vallette... since this Vallette woman is (by all I have) a member of my
family albeit with some problems in her Tefft m. info I am curious as to
whether there may be some connection (obviously not quite as he has it).
I have written to ask him, "What/where/how?" basically and his answers
make little or no sense. There was, in fact, a Nancy Tefft (or Tifft)
born to the above parents (1790 in Exeter, RI) and the family moved to
Nassau, NY ca. 1793, but that's all I know. Clearly there is a serious
problem with this man's file (in more than this case actually) and I
would not trouble you with this except that my Vallette family is
proving quite hard to trace...
I have 3 direct lines back to Moses Barber and Susannah West, also, and
so find all of it rather fascinating... thank you!
April
