I am researching a member of the Walker Family for my neighbor Herbert
Walker of Prescott, Arizona. George Walker a relative was born in
Providence in 1852 and enlisted in the U.S. calvary in Dec. of 1874 in
New York City under the name George Weldon. He was killed at the Battle
of the Little Big Horn in June of 1876. I am trying to find out why he
enlisted under the name of George Weldon. George Weldon appears in
census records for Providence up until 1882 so he was in fact another
person. I suspect that local news paper accounts of Custer's Last Stand
might include something about George Walker AKA George Weldon. If
someone has access to any old records or newspaper accounts,or can help
me in any other way I would appreciate hearing from you.
Sincerly;
