The Library at the NHS has a book on cameos of the
Colonial Governors, giving their brief histories,
photos of their tombstones and monuments connected
with each.
If you call and ask for Bert Lippincott, Librarian, he
could help out with more information on the book,
furnish photocopies for a fee, and probably
information on location of any portraits of Govenors
Cranston.
Perhaps the Rhode Island Historical Society may also
have a portrait.
If a visit to Newport is on the offing, better yet to
visit the Common Burial ground for viewing the
gravestones there as others have already mentioned.
William Ellery, Signer of the Declaration of
Independence is also buried there, also with a notable
tombstone, his is located off Warner St., up from
Farewell St. It can be seen from the sidewalk, and in
"my days",(when I walked by it everyday going and
coming to Mumford School); there was a gate nearby
for entering the grounds. The foregoing are only two
of the many interesting persons of yore who have their
resting places and stones there. Definitely worth a
visit-along with many other worthwhile sites in town.

Claudia,
This may be of interest.
"One double tombstone covers the father and son, and
lies in the common
burying place in Newport containing the following
inscriptions:
"Here lieth the body of John Cranston, Esquire,
Governor of the Colony
of Rhode Island, etc. He departed this life March
12, 1680 in the 55th
year of his age."
