if you cannot find the book that you are looking for, see your local public
library.
often the book could be accessible to you through interlibrary loan. this
would be a
good option for reviewing the book prior to purchase also.
the book might be available on microfilm/microform through the local history
center of
the church of latter day saints. you can rent the microfilm or purchase it.
you could save a search for the author or a part of the title in ebay and
ebay will
email you when they have a match for your search. be careful about your
search term,
though. you don't want to be emailed dozens of possibilities because your
search term
was not specific.
you could pre-order the book from several booksellers. if
amazon.com has a
page for the
book, for instance, it might be listed as out of print. you can put it on a
wishlist.
then, when a seller wants to sell, amazon will email you.

rare genealogical books are often fairly expensive. prices usually range
from $35-$300.
one of the reasons they are rare is that the author often prints a limited
number of
books. and the books would appeal to a limited audience.
check with genealogy and historical societies near the author's home or near
the
original ancestor's area. check surname associations.

often you can search for a genealogy society through google or another
search engine by
putting in the county and state and genealogical organization as keywords.
don't forget to search for the book or the author's name on google or other
search
engines.
if you do find the author or the author's family, you might mention to them
that
higginson book company print books on demand and pay a royalty to the
author. this
might be an arrangement that would help others looking for the book also.
