In the history of Portsmouth, NH - there is mentioned one Timothy
Watrous Jr. - he left previous to 1738 for Newport from that town to
join the Quakers at Newport. The date of his marriage was 1738 to
Hannah Proud @ Newport - some have her as daughter of John and Rebecca
Proud of Newport - a watchmaker. The book on Portsmouth,NH states that
Timothy had eleven sons. Not sure how they know this ? can anyone say
- will ? records of the colony ? Timothy died at Newport in 1792.
Sometimes this name is written Waters - Waterous and Waterhouse. Of
interest to me is the presence of a son named John b. ca 1754. he was a
mariner. Many of the Newport marine people went to Providence during
the Revolution and stayed.
Timothy of Portsmouth had two brothers - both listed as nautical
captains in a census of Portsmouth,NH in 1727.
John Watrous of Providence was a ships rigger and of interest to me in
connecting him with Timothy of Newport as his father.
Opinions always welcome.
