Jayne,
I got started last night looking up entries in the RI Roots CD for your
surnames. Here's what I've found so far:
*Christopher ELLIS
*Wealthy PERRY
The only listings for either of them was for your query in 1997!
*John PECK
His name showed up once in "Early History of South (Washington) County"
by
Leona McElroy Kelley, but I couldn't tell from the context if this is your
John Peck.
*John BUTTON
His name is listed on the 1777 Military Census of Hopkinton, RI (spelled
John Butten). Also listed are William BUTTEN and Isaiah BUTTEN.
*Daniel BUTTON
His name is listed in "Revolutionary War Veterans with R.I. Service or
Residence, Listed in Connecticut Rev. Pensioners, comp. by Conn. DAR" (Also
listed were Isaiah BUTTON and Jonathan PALMITER)
I didn't find any listings for Anna PALMER, Penelope SATTERLEE, Hannah
HARRINGTON, or Ferdinand ELLIS.
There are 13 entries for Daniel WILCOX and 9 entries for Hannah WILCOX, so
I'll have to tackle those when I've got more time.
Hope this helps.
Judy

Subject: Re: [RIGENWEB] My family lines on RI ROOTS CD
Dear Judy:
Here are the names of the persons who moved from RI to NYS and became my
ancestors:
ELLIS, Christopher, born 1783, in RI according to 19th century Federal
censuses. I do not know his parents, siblings or ancestors. He moved to
Milford, Otsego Co., NYS and married Wealthy PERRY about 1800. Their first
child was born in 1801. Wealthy PERRY's PERRY family lived in
Chesterfield,
Hampshire Co., MA, before emigrating to Harwick, Otsego Co., NY in
the
late
1780s.
WILCOX, Daniel, father of WILCOX, Hannah, who was born about 1797 in
Westerly
and married BUTTON, Festus who was born about 1794 in Westerly to
John
BUTTON
born about 1756 RI and Anna PALMER. Hannah and Festus were married in
1816
in
Westerly and had about 15 children in RI before emigrating to New
Berlin,
Chenango Co., NYS. I have not found Hannah's father, Daniel WILCOX, in any
WILCOX family.
PECK, John, born probably about 1790 but could have been born somewhat
earlier, in RI according to 19th century Federal censuses. He married Mary
_______. Either John or Mary or both of them are said to have had Indian
blood, either in part or wholly. I do not know where John and Mary were
married, in RI or NY. They had six children. I have the birth dates of all
of
them, but the birthplace of only one of them, William Orange PECK or
Orange
PECK born 1817 in Manlius, Onondaga County, NY.
BUTTON, John, born about 1756 in RI, parents were Daniel BUTTON II and
Elizabeth PALMITER. John supposedly married Anna PALMER. I have not been
able
to find this Anna PALMER anywhere in the extensive PALMER families.
John
took
his family about 1790 to Brookfield, Madison County, NY. There is a
John
BUTTON and Anna PALMER marriage in 1790 in Westerly, RI, on the LDS search
site. I tend to think this is my John BUTTON and that he, at about 34
years
of age, married a substantially younger Anna PALMER; their first
child was
born in 1791 and they continued to have children over the next two
decades. I
can find no evidence that this John BUTTON served in the Rev War
although
he
would have been of prime age to do so.
BUTTON, John, born 1749 Plainfield CT, but supposedly also took his family
from RI to Brookfield, Madison County, NYS in the early 1790s. This John
BUTTON supposedly married Anna COON (McCOON, MACCOONE, etc.) These two
John
BUTTONs are cousins. This John BUTTON served in the Rev War from RI.
What irks me is that all of the information on John BUTTON who moved from
RI
to NY seems to be about the one born 1749 CT, not the one born 1756
RI,
who
was my ancestor. Please send me anything you can find on John BUTTONs
who
lived in this period; I may be able to glean something from it that would
clear up the mixing of information about these two John BUTTONs. BUTTON
researchers have been trying to solve this problem for years, so far
without
success, as far as I know.
PALMITER (PALMETER, PALMETTER, etc.), Elizabeth, who was born Dec 13, 1725
Westerly to Jonathan PALMITER born Jan 15, 1702/03 and Penelope SATTERLEE
born about 1700 Westerly. Jonathan and Penelope were married Jan 21,
1720/21
Westerly. Elizabeth PALMETER and Daniel BUTTON were married Sep 24,
1744
Westerly, parents of John BUTTON above
HARRINGTON, Hannah, born about 1812, married Ferdinand ELLIS born about
1813.
They married April 27, 1840, New Lisbon, Otsego Co., NY, and lived
most of
their married lives in New Berlin, Chenango County, NY. I have no more
info
about Hannah, but I have seen a lot of messages about HARRINGTON on
this
list
lately and think Hannah may have come from a family that moved from
RI to
NYS.
Thanks very much, Judy, for looking up these names.
