I have recently joined this list and hope that someone may be able to help
me... though I am not _very_ hopeful!
My ggmother was born Elizabeth (Lizzie) MITCHELL in RI in 1854 or so. In
1875 or so she m William Henry RYLEY (also RILEY) (1850-1917). I do not know
where she married, but afaik she lived in New London CT for the rest of her
life. I know about her surviving children, but I know nothing at all about her
ancestors.
Elizabeth MITCHELL seems to have been a fairly common name in RI in the
mid-19th c, and although I am able to access censuses via
Ancestry.com, I have
found nothing which pinpoints her family. I have her in 1881, married in New
London, but nothing earlier.
Perhaps my best hope is that the descendants of my grandfather's sisters (to
my knowledge only Madeleine and Maud RYLEY have descendants; my gfather was
Harold William RYLEY, MD) know more about this than I do, but my side of the
family lost touch with them about 50 years ago. I now live in England.
I should be delighted to hear from anyone who may have some clues here.
