Jon is probably correct but
for reference purposes rootsweb
has an American Indian place names
for Rhode Island (past and present)
that I generally refer to.
I know some people use Native American but others say "american Indian"
The spelling is a variant it could be We , Wa, Wau, etc. or even Wo
It sounds a lot like the "Waucantuck " Mills that my mother and aunt used
to talk about on the Mendon/Uxbridge/Blackstone borders with Rhode Island.
Good luck finding the towns; I know I probably have an American Indian woman in
my genealogy but we have no proof.... Olive Lee married Ruben Greene in Douglas MA.
Both her mother and father listed as dying of small pox in 1825. (We are not certain
which parent was her blood relative and if there was American Indian ancestry
but that is what the family "folklore " states and I keep looking

Message Board Post:
In the process of logging in a large cemetery in Millville NJ. Came across the
name Judith S. Church, wife of Rev. Isaac M. Church. Records indicate she was
born in Waketteta, RI. I looked on the net to make sure I had the town spelling
correct and was unable to find it. Anyone have thoughts as to what the correct
spelling is?? Maybe a place or town that no longer exist??
Thanks . . George
