I haven't seen an answer to your question so I will suggest a few places,
but you will
have to check them out to see if they cover the time frames you need
Newport Historical Society
http://www.newporthistorical.org/
Rhode Island Historical Society
http://www.rihs.org/
Providence City Hall Archives
http://www.providenceri.com/archives/about-us/providence-city-archives
There is a lot of information on the above websites about their holdings,
hours, etc.

Subject: [RI] Research Advice
I am going to be visiting Rhode Island for a few days in August and I am
seeking advice on locations that might have the greatest probability of
locating records on specific ancestors. I am most interested in a Michael
Phillips that died around 1676, and lived in the Newport, Narragansett
area as
he was made a freeman in Newport in 1668. The second person is
Joseph
Phillips, believed to be son of Michael Phillips. I believe Joseph was
born
abt 1655 in Newport and died September 1719 in Providence, RI. He
left
significant land holdings to his wife Elizabeth Malavery Phillips in his
will
whic is recorded in Providence.
I would appreciate any advice I can get on location of records that may
provide more information on these ancestors. I was in Rhode Island in
2007
doing genealogical research but spent most of my time in the
Glocester
area
researching my ggggrandfather David Phillips, d1797, Glocester. I
have
since
learned of Michael and Joseph Phillips. Joseph was the father of
David
Phillips.
Thank you in advance,
Roger Phillips
