Death records up to 1959, soon aft. 1 Jan it will be up to 1960 and birth & marriage
up to 1909, ditto 1 Jan soon to be 1910 are available at RI State Archives.
Anything newer, is available only to direct descendants either through RI Dept. of Health,
Vital Records or from the Town Clerk where the event took place. In either case, you need
to know some basics...name & year and the certificate for the even will cost you $20
each.
You can get around those limiting dates a bit by going on to the Family Search Pilot
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start
& Beta Pilot sites
https://beta.familysearch.org/ for information.
The databases you'd be looking at are -
Rhode Island Births and Christenings, 1878-1914
Rhode Island Deaths and Burials, 1802-1950
Rhode Island Marriages, 1724-1916
They also have the RI State Censuses with images for 1885, 1905, 1915 & 1925.
Naturally, the state census for the 1890's was MIA when the censuses were finally
filmed by RI way back whenever they finally did this.
Results there will tell you what FHL film the data came from so you can borrow the film
from Salt Lake & pull a copy of the actual entry for a lot less than the $20 RI
charges.
Any births & marriages the early half of the 20th century after 1909 -1910 are work to
try and determine. You have to use a number of sources and go round about. Even then you
might not find what you're seeking.
