I am still seeking information on MY James Braman with a wife
Elizabeth. In 1729 he purchases property in Voluntown, CT; his former
residence stated as North Kingstown, RI. They had seven children,
Elizabeth, born 8 March 1730, John, born 18 Aug. 1731, James, born 13
Oct. 1732, Anna, born 28 Aug. 1734, Thomas, born 25 May 1736, Benjamin,
born 6 June 1738, Esther, born 1 Feb. 1740. Esther is my ancestor, she
married Ebenezer Herrick on 10 Aug. 1759 in Preston, New London Co., CT.
All of James Braman and Elizabeth (--?--)'s children were born in Voluntown.
He is NOT the James Braman who was married to Elizabeth Carpenter and
had children Solomon and Sarah. Sarah was born in 1731 in RI, after MY
James Braman and Elizabeth were living in CT.
Recently I discovered online Westerly Deeds, Vol. 6, while Googling
"James Braman." Here's an item related to a James Braman: [Also Vol. 5
had where James Braman, Jr. obtained the property.]
Pages 107-108, James Braman Jr. and Elizabeth his wife of North
Kingstown, Mason, to Palmer Cleveland of North Kingstown, Taylor, 78 &
frac12{???]; A bounded by: land in possession of Benjamin Braman, Daniel
Brown late Decd, land of John Lewis in possession of William Lewis,
March 13, 1729/30. Witnesses: James Helme and Sands Helme.
At first I thought this could be MY James Braman because of the date of
sale and the fact that he purchased property in Voluntown on 25 April
1729. But after thinking about it, probably this, too, refers to the
James Braman married to Elizabeth Carpenter.
There is also a deed on Pages 185-186 for Benjamin Braman and Martha his
wife, Laborer, to Joseph Enos 75 A bounded: John Bently, Palmer
Cleveland, Wm Lewis, May 16, 1732. Witnesses: Wm Watson and John Braman.
The list of children born to James and Jane (Babcock) Braman includes
the James said to have married Elizabeth Carpenter; it also includes a
Benjamin Braman who marries a Martha Hall. MY James Braman and wife
Elizabeth also had a son Benjamin.
ACCCCHHHH! Could the idea that the James Braman who married Elizabeth
Carpenter being the son of James and Jane, be wrong? Could my James
Braman be that son? Which James Braman had the occupation of Mason
(according to the deed)?
Thanks for any thoughts on this ongoing puzzle. What would you suggest
I do next.
