Thank you, but I don't think that is the Mary I am looking for. You see, my great grandmother Emelia (Rose) St Germain was born in 1901 and my great great grandmother, Mary was born 1878 in Canada. Mary married Jean Baptiste St Germain in 1900 and I think she may have already had a daughter named Mildred or Esther at the time. I think Jean Baptiste was born in RI in 1872 and he died in RI in 1956.

Hi Kathy,
My wife (Carole) has taken up the search here. She went to RI yesterday and pulled some records. We should start some coordination if you are still active in your pursuit.

I am not related, but was able to find Mary's death record at The Archives in Providence, R.I.::
Mary Katherine St Germain, age 36 yrs, 10 mths, died on April 20, 1937 at The Homeopathic Hospital in Providence. She resided on 10 Orchard St, Johnston, R.I. Her husband Jean Bapiste St Germain was the informant. She was born on May 27, 1900 in Taunton, Mass. Her father John Dupont was born in Azores and her mother Kate Silvia was born in Fayal, Azores.
It appears she was having surgery for a deviated septum and during, or right after surgery she had acute cardiac failure. She is buried in St Anns Cemetery in Cranston, R.I.

Hi - I need help. I haven't researched in Rhode Island before. I'm trying to help someone in the UK who is trying to find a cousin for her 96yr old father.
this is all she knows:
Harry DOUGLAS and his wife Fanny (nee BROADBENT bn. 1878 in Leeds, UK). Harry was a carpet designer. They emigrated to USA in early 1900s.
They had a son Lewis, born approx. 1913, who in turn had a son born approx. 1943.
They lived in Rhode Island in the 1950s.
I tried the Rhode Island GenWeb and they have Douglases in the 1800s... nada. I've got access to the Historical NY Times - would they have anything? Sorry, I'm in California and am kinda clueless in states, counties on the East Coast, who shares info, who doesn't, etc. I don't know the county :-(
thanks for all of your help!
Julie in CA

Thank you , Jen. Using Ancestry Hints, I had traced back to the 900's in Normandy, France. When I searched for these early ancestors on Google, they all seem to be somewhat famous. I am very skeptical. After all, it is more likely that most people decended from common folk rather than royals.
I think that I will go back to the beginning
of the tree & see if I can verify more of it before I add unsourced information. I would rather have quality rather than quantity. Judy

Judy,
Just a few cents worth from a long time researcher, save yourself the effort of copying others information unless a source for the information is entered. More people guess at things in family research than in anything else. It's alright to utilize a family tree for information, but if the person has not sourced the entries then it is not likely to be completely accurate. Even if the best researcher does work, 2-3 years later he or she can find herself in error. After all none of us our perfect........
I learned that a long time ago and it has stuck with me throughout.
Jen

According to the 1920 US census of R,I my Great Grandparents (Fenelli)
{spelled wrong} provided 1912 as the date of imigration; however the
family stories include the fact that My greatgrandmother was on a ship
that experianced difficulty in travel (it listed badly) and made port
other than Ellis Island in a hurry with no record of the journey(?).
This was a word-of mouth story passed on. Does this sound familiar to
anyone? how would I do about verifing a ship that fits this decription?
