I have a little dilemma with one of my lines, and I don't think it has anything to do with R.I. but am not sure.
John Knowles came to New England in 1639, was ordained in Watertown, MA and married a Jemima Austin. He was a minister of the Presbyterian church, and according to the Clergy of N.E. by Weis, went back to England and died there in 1685.
Now, everyone on this list knows the Austin name, but I cannot find a connection to this lady.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Arlene,
They aren't in my line either but I am hoping it helps someone else.
Regards,
Elaine

In response to the letter saying one has to wait 100 years for BMD certificates, I have been able to get death records after 50 years with no problems If you are a direct descendant you can get death certificates earlier than that.
Naturalization was a federal application, not state, so it would be at the National Archives. I think those forms are online.

Sorry you have had such a tough time. Yes, naturalizations are part of the
court system, but every time I have found one for one of my ancestors the
documents have ended up being at an archive location rather than a court, so
I thought it best to ask the list.
I appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Margy

learn that vital records on RI individuals are generally sealed from the public
for a period of 100 years from the date of the event (births, marriages,

that naturalizations might be included in that, although naturalizations are

Yes, thank you, Elaine, if you would be so kind.

Dear Mrs. Phillips:
I think I have written to you before but have not had a reply, so I am going to try again as I am anxious to get what little information I can concerning Lydia PHILLIPS genealogy who married about Dec. 4, 1800 Stephen N. PECK 1778 - 1875 of Stanfordville, Dutchess Co. Lydia came from Windsor, Mass (I have been given to understand) and her father was known as Judge PHILLIPS. They apparently were married in No. Norwich and returned to Windsor where they lived until 1805 when they moved to Solon, N.Y. Cortland Co. Their first two children were born at Windsor. Polly B. 1801 and Lyman b. 1803. The other 8 children were born at Solon, they were Hiram, 1806; Nathan, 1809; Emily, 1811; Stephen, 1814; Platt (my grandfather,) 1817; Smith, 1820; John, 1823; Sally, 1825.
I have uncovered numeress Lydia PHILLIPS & PHELPS, many of Windsor Mass. & Conn but not the one I am looking for. She must have been visiting relatives in No. Norwich where she met my grandfather who lived in Sherburne at that time. He was the son of John PECK, Jr. 1742 - 1819 who m. Sarah NORTHRUP, who moved there in 1795 via No. Salem, N.Y. & Hunter, Greene County, 1792. Sherburne, 1795. He was born at Greenwich Ct. I will be very gratified if you can help me.
Sincerely,
Helen S. NAGELL (Mrs.)
Note from Elaine:
Stanfordville, Dutchess County is in N.Y. State
No. Norwich and Sherburne are in Chenango County, N.Y. State but they are also New England towns.
Hunter, Greene Co. is in N.Y. State.
Solon is in Cortland County, New York.
There is a Windsor close by here in Broome County, N.Y. State but I think they are talking about CT?
Does anyone know who this Martha Field is?
1790 United States Federal Census > Rhode Island > Providence > Providence
She doesn't show up on the 1800 Census.

I have James, Sr. (c1695) as married to Hope Fish and James, Jr. (1727) as
married to Alice Brown and they had James III (1753). Maybe James III
married Elce Wood?

Note from Elaine:
James PHILLIPS and Hope FISH PHILLIPS were my ancestors as was their son and executor James PHILLIPS, Jr. In the early part of the 1800s this James, Jr. came to New Berlin, Chenango County, NY with many members of the PHILLIPS family. James, Jr. was in the Rev. War - twice. He married Elce WOOD who lived to be 102 years old.
Does anyone know......where or what .....J. William's Factory was in South
Kingstown in 1836?
It may have been a grist mill.
